Both Whitby and Scarborough conjure up the memories of great holidays for many people throughout the United Kingdom for people of all ages, as these two scenic coastal holiday locations offer a myriad of things to do and see whilst enjoying some welcome recreation relaxation.
Whitby and Scarborough sit up on the North West Yorkshire coastline and feature some of the most breathtaking countryside and coastal views found anywhere on the British Isles. This part of the Yorkshire countryside gives visitors a wide variety of events and attractions to enjoy during their summer holidays.
Here is a brief guide to events taking place during the summer holidays in August.
August 1 - 5 sees the 'Festival of Yorkshire' in Scarborough, which is a truly unique five-day festival to celebrate all that is great about the county of Yorkshire. The Festival of Yorkshire event is being organised by Scarborough Borough Council and the Scarborough Urban Area Forum as part of its arts culture and sport theme for 2012. There will be a range of events, displays and exhibitions which highlights Yorkshire's vibrant culture and unique identity. This event also highlights the many annual events and local displays which are celebrated every week in Scarborough and the surrounding areas, like local arts and music and the many things produced locally.
The Whitby & District Lions 2012 Beer Festival on August 2 -5 is an annual event organised to raise money for many different local charities. The Beer Festival will be held at The Met at Whitby West Cliff, with the doors opening at 12 noon each day of the event. Visitors attending will be able to try over 30 real ales, beers and ciders available. Additionally, there will be a range of locally produced food available throughout the festival to enjoy. Ticket entry is £5.00 and this includes the beer festival's commemorative glass and program.
Whitby Folk Week is taking place during August 18 - 24 and is another great event not to miss out on this summer if you are visiting the area. Billed as the UK's premier folk festival, Whitby Folk Week offers seven days and nights of celebration for traditional folk music, song and dance of the British Isles.
The event also gives anyone a chance to enjoy some of county's finest musicians and singers in over 600 events, concerts, dances and singing, enjoy the very best in traditional music and dance, with authentic ceilidh's and social dance events taking place in the pavilion complex, plus a range of other events taking place in many of the local bars, with sessions, workshops, and street entertainers making this a folk festival not to miss out on.
